Plan Your Party or Wedding Early

Today, I want to help you start planning your party with a FREE printable party planner that you can print out and start getting ready for this year’s birthday party!  Scroll down for the FREE printable planner.

First, let’s talk about what is trending for birthday parties and baby showers for 2017.  Custom prints and personalized party decor is hot!

Oh sure, you could shop at that big box retail party store, but why? If you are planning ahead by at least 6 to 8 full weeks for an upcoming birthday party, baby shower, wedding, or any celebration- why not order in custom or personalized party decorations to coordinate to your party theme?!

Oh whoa!  Did that planning timeline throw you off? It’s actually smart and less stressful to start planning your children’s birthdays right now.  Why not?  At least start thinking of your theme and/or color scheme and ask them for some input! Even if their birthday is not until August, you can start shopping for custom made to order items on Etsy now.  In fact, you should!

Sadly, I have to turn so many custom order requests away in the spring and summer months because mothers and brides wait until the last minute to plan and organize their birthday party for their little one’s special day.  I think Etsy shoppers sometimes forget that much of what is offered on Etsy is made to order, after checkout and many seller’s on Etsy have a full-time job.  Mine just happens to be my full-time business as a direct vendor for event planners all over the United States.

Yes, in most cases- I can ship many items from THE PARTY FETTI SHOP right away!  Ready to ship inventory is no problem but for my custom made items, I need my full 14 business day production time, so I can schedule orders out.  During my busiest time of year, spring and summer, I generally have 5 to 8 custom orders a day to get done and shipping out by customer deadlines.

However if you plan ahead, as early as now, custom party decor is the way to go!

Birthday Party & Wedding Trends 2016

It may seem a bit late to be covering the 2016 wedding and birthday party trends in July but actually this is the height of wedding and party season. Although, we can’t all be lucky enough to have a birthday in the summertime (Oh how I always wished for a summer party- alas, I am a winter baby!), these party styling trends are perfect for many other celebrations and events too. I work with many event planners all summer long for promotional events with charities and big companies and wedding planners helping their brides count down the days until they walk down the aisle. So this is a roundup of the most requested items from my shops this summer. Right now is the perfect time to share what is popular at birthday parties and at all events. Let’s count it down –

1. Confetti & Confetti Balloons – Balloons have always been popular at events but now the oversized clear balloons filled with colorful confetti is way better and makes an even bigger statement. Custom Balloons could be brilliant for a kids party, giving it your own personal touch. They look great flanking either side of a party table or lining an entryway or bundled up in a bouquet with some smaller confetti balloons. Big balloons in bright colors or big polka dot balloons are also trending at kids birthday parties and confetti in every design and style sprinkled here and there for a splash of color- so go for it and add some giant sized POP to your next party!

2. Tissue Tassels – As full garlands, hanging from balloons, or anywhere at the party. Use them behind the party table or draped in front of it, at the photo area, hang them vertically at door entrances- or just about anywhere.

3. Pinwheels – Yep, they really never seem to go out of style at a party and are the perfect fun activity for the kids in the summertime. Be sure to add some XL size spinning pinwheels in the yard and some varying sizes at the party table as a table centerpiece to add some height. Wedding pinwheels are perfect for the non-traditional bride too.

Pinwheels now come in so many coordinating custom designs to adorn every party theme – even a Dr. Seuss party!

Dr. Seuss Birthday Party

4. Rainbow Colors – Who needs a party theme when rainbow pretty much covers it. No need to worry about finding flamingo food picks and everything else in a pink bird design. . . when you go with Rainbow you can have an art coloring party, a Very Hungry Caterpillar party, a My Little Pony Party, a Candyland Party, a Crayola Party. . . or just a Rainbow Party with everything you need down to the plates, cups, favor bags / favor boxes and decorations in a vibrant mix of many colors. Using rainbow colors is the easiest way to decorate your next party.

5. Metallics & Glitter – Gold was so last year. . . yet, gold is still very popular but the new metal is rose gold and copper. Tissue tassels in gold and silver are super hot right now. Everything glitter is still the way to go too- from cut letter banners to cupcake toppers – in any sparkling glitter color.

Glitter Gold Letter Banner

6. Laser Cut Party Items – Everything from cake toppers at weddings and birthday parties to individual cut letters on a banner, to drink stirrers, and even small customized designs and shapes for your theme added to anything at the party. Cut from wood or acrylic is the rage but the knock offs in felt fabric and cardstock are just as wonderful too.

Personalized Party Decorations

Everything personalized in custom laser cut designs and in custom designer prints is huge right now and you can get just about everything in any cut font lettering or print pattern- even party hats!

Party Hats

7. Yacht Rock Music – Okay, you are probably not going to play this at a kids birthday party but this lighter rock from the 70’s and early 80’s is huge right now at adult parties and especially at wedding receptions. Why? It is fun but also relaxing, yet upbeat, and every generation can dance to it. The cover bands are so into it right now that most dress in either nautical attire or 1970’s clothing to add to the theme.

8. Succulents – Yep. Even at a children’s party. Especially at an outdoor party. They look stunning, are very affordable, and can withstand the heat. At a birthday party – they make a nice added live floral touch (if you can find them blooming, even better) at the table, anywhere around the outdoor seating area – or they make wonderful guest gift favors at a wedding or at an adult party.

9. Hanging Fans – These are not really new for 2016. . . but they are still being utilized at just about every bridal shower, baby shower, and at kids parties. They are the most affordable way to create a larger backdrop or photo background and come in soooo many designs and colors. You can buy them in individual colors and layer them to coordinate to your party or shop around for designs in any theme – including flowers, western, and rainbow. Hanging Paper Fans are so versatile too – they can be adhered them to a wall with removable and peelable sticky tabs or simply hanging them in a row or randomly from the ceiling.

10. Black Chalkboard – It has been around now for a while but guess what? It is still very ‘in’ and very utilized at all kinds of events and particularly at weddings. Black chalkboard labels are the least expensive way to incorporate this trend at an event but now it can be found sewn into tablecloths, made into placemats and table runners, and cut into fun designs and shapes as party decorations and favors. Actual boards painted in black chalkboard paint are perfect for signage and decorating any way you want at your next event. So black is the new black for 2016 and you can’t go wrong adding it somewhere at your party.

Black Chalkboard Labels

11. Butterflies & Flowers – These are not just for little girls anymore. Although, yes, very popular still at First Birthday parties and all age parties- they can now be seen on wedding cakes and at baby showers as banners and edible favors. So many ways to decorate your event with them too! They are available in felt fabric and paper.

Flower Party

12. Bohemian Outdoor Everything – There was a moment when I thought Boho was just about on the way out as a trend . . . and then summer 2016 came with an abundance of teepees, feather garlands, and dream catchers at so many parties. There’s no such thing as bring too much at a party, especially if you are hosting it. If you’re thinking of going all out, you could look into something like buy festoon lighting online, which allows you to add another element to the bohemian theme and it adds more style to the party. Plus, it is great for photo taking at night! If you are also thinking about getting photos taken at your party then why not also think about getting something like these Instagram Frames to make your photos just that much better. I love this bohemian theme though because it is laid back and chill. So go ahead, get your hippie on and hang in the outdoors!

Wedding Guest Gifts & Favor Ideas

Wedding Favors

If you’re planning a summer wedding (or are just a fan of florals), send friends and family home with favors featuring beautiful blooms and greenery. Whether in fresh, faux, or seedling form, garden-worthy guest gifts are guaranteed to please.  It’s the wedding guest gift that keeps on giving. . . and growing.  Today I am sharing some ideas for wedding favors that won’t bust your bank account and are super easy to DIY by either decorating the existing peat pots or plastic starter pots they come in or repotting your plants in inexpensive planters.

Wedding Guest Gifts

Plantable seeds in fancy tiny envelopes are the most affordable guest gift you can give.  We offer these lovely custom made SEED ENVELOPES in our wedding shop, I DO Wedding & Bridal Designs.  They can be purchased without the seeds and you can actually pick up large bags of mixed wildflower seeds at your local home hardware store or nursery to fill them up yourself.  Super easy and budget-friendly!

Succulents are ideal for a summer wedding.  They have been becoming increasingly more popular as the bride’s bouquet and as table centerpieces at the reception because they cost much less than fresh floral arrangements.  I love the creative stacked display in this photo above, but I recommend purchasing a straight paper cutter to cut your Kraft paper into more perfect squares for a more finished appearance.  Or cone shapes wrapped around your plastic starter pots are pretty too.  Why not take it up a decorative notch and use pattern scrapbooking paper or simply stamp a decorative design on the front!

I love the added sheer organza ribbon bows and printed plant labels on these, used as table markers or escort cards with each individual guest’s name printed on the plant labels.  The ribbon adds a decorative finish to the kraft wrapped basic starter plastic pots and the printed tags make if feel more personal for each wedding guest.  Handwriting your own TAGS is an added personal touch too. We offer rustic style KRAFT TAGS in our READY SET CRAFT KITS shop so you can pretty up your own DIY wedding guest favors! Or trendy CHALKBOARD HEART STICKERS would be creative and stunning added to the front of each of your planters.

Wedding Favor Ideas

Another easy way to decorate your starter pots is to wrap them in inexpensive cheesecloth fabric that you can buy in bulk and then tie them up with beautiful baker’s twine.

Baker's Twine

NATURAL JUTE TWINE is great for a rustic style wedding but there are so many colorful BAKER’S TWINE options now- you can even coordinate it to your wedding color scheme.

Succulents as wedding favors

Custom PRINTED FLAGS are a great added touch to any plant guest gifts.

DIY Wedding Favors

House your starter plants or replant them in fun decorative PAPER CUPS!

Wedding Guest Gifts 7

Finally, small glass candle votives as fresh and clean planters are very inexpensive if you have a large guest list attending your wedding and reception and need to spiff up your starter plants for your wedding gifts.  No matter how you decorate your plant wedding favors, your guests will love the idea of taking something home that they can continue to watch grow, long after the wedding, much like your love for one another.

Consider some of these creative DIY wedding favors for your upcoming ceremony. If you need some help with any other wedding favors or wedding decorations, feel free to stop by any of our shops by clicking the links below.  I would love to custom design something for your special day!

Throwing birdseed at the bride and groom for their send off is so yesterday.  There are so many new inventive less traditional send offs that create a fun experience for the wedding guests and lifelong memory for the newly married couple.
SPARKLERS are, by far, one of the the most popular wedding send offs couples choose these days. Followed right behind the new fad of releasing lanterns into the night sky.

It can be something as simple as a few roman candles for your car to drive through, or guests can use projectiles. Country venues are ideal for this send off.  Be sure to clear it with the venue and make sure to get proper permits and hire the correct staff, and remember to always have a fire extinguisher near by.

Sequins/Glitter Confetti

Just remember you’ll be finding GLITTER CONFETTI on your body and clothing for weeks after your wedding. Not the most eco-friendly option, but gorgeous nonetheless! And the photos will truly sparkle!  Don’t skimp on the packaging for your confetti, lots or CUSTOM CONFETTI ENVELOPES are available and make the guests feel like they are opening a little gift too!

Cap Guns

Really cute idea, especially if you are gun aficionados. The smoke will capture the flash from the photo and can have a cool effect, plus who doesn’t love a good cap gun?

Perfect for the winter wedding.  Fake snow will look great in photos and your friends will have a wonderful time playing in the snow.

Okay, this is not really a typical send-off, but is a totally a fun and amazing way to end your wedding. You can fill the pinata with something like candy, or with little liquor bottles, or any fun adult themed favor. If you are going that route, just make sure that there are no kids at the party.

Balloons are the hottest alternative to sending lanterns off. You can put different colored TISSUE CONFETTI CIRCLES , glow sticks or cheap led lights inside the balloons to really let the night shine. You’ll be able to get beautiful photos while they are still on the ground, and then capture the lift off for an ultra spectacular end to your night.

Lavender, lavender, lavender. Perfect for purple themed weddings, or for those looking out for the environment, or for those who just love lavender in general. Bonus? It smells really nice!

I think this idea is super cute for a teacher or a pilot bride or groom, the white paper will shine in the flash of the camera, and you’ll get a amazing action photos. The most important part is that everyone will have a really great time throwing them at you; this is something very unique and memorable.

Oatmeal is actually not bad at all for the environment, it won’t get stuck in hard to reach places for weeks to come, and it’s great for hair (in case some lands all up in there).

Glow Sticks

Glow sticks are super fun and your wedding guests will love waving them in the air long after you leave. You can choose the rainbow colored ones, or coordinate the color to your wedding color scheme.

Silly String

This is going to get messy, but what’s more fun to do at the end of the wedding than drowning your friend in silly string. You won’t be able to walk directly in to the limo at the end of the night, but everyone will be talking about this for years to come.

Who doesn’t want their fairy tale ending with a movie finish? CONFETTI is the original throwing super star and no one can deny how spectacular it looks in photos.  There are a bunch of creative ways to shoot the confetti too, like these PUSH POPS.

Flower petals are biodegradable and great for the environment and so classy chic.

SUPER fun, and the bigger the marshmallows, the bigger the impact in the photos. Beware, this send off will leave behind a gooey mess, so be sure to put someone in the wedding party in charge of clean up after you are long gone.

BUBBLES create the most whimsical send off. Easy and elegant and clean and beautiful. Giving guests single BUBBLE WANDS is very cost effective, but if you wanted to splurge for a few people, maybe the wedding party, to have bubble guns, your pictures can look purely magical.
So go on out there, think outside the box and give your friends a billion reasons to never forget your wedding.
