Party Trend For 2017- Unicorn Parties

PARTY TREND FOR 2017 – UNICORN PARTIES

In case you have not noticed, unicorn themed parties are hugely popular right now.  I recently shared some amazing unicorn cakes on my blog and today I wanted to share some party tables and decorations in this theme.  First, the color scheme can be any shades you want- although bright rainbows are most common, this color scheme shown above utilizes more of a pastel rainbow color mix.  The soft tissue flower frame backdrop is stunning- it really makes a statement at this two year old’s birthday party and adds so much height to the dessert table.  I offer some diy paper flowers in my craft shop so you can create a similar tablescape.

Here is another framed tissue flower backdrop at a unicorn party.  I love the more soft subtle color scheme and the simple decor on this buffet really stands out.  Pinks and golds are trendy and fit in for this theme but a rainbow color scheme is perfect too.

This outdoor party features a designer unicorn cake front and center and a mint green and soft pink color pallette with a touch of gold decor.

I think some unicorn pinwheels would have added an extra touch at the party above!

This unicorn birthday party for Emma has it all with candy and a designer unicorn cake and the bright rainbow decorations.

Finally, this last unicorn party looks like it might have been at the Vatican for the pope!  Actually, its just a simple Venetian living room  . . . not really, its anything but simple! While it appears over the top with all the gold, embellished walls, intricate carved table and flanked with elegant floral arrangements – its classic yet still sweet and whimsical.

So whatever your color scheme or style- consider a unicorn party this year!

Today I am sharing some of the parties where our custom pinwheels and other handmade party decorations have been featured.  I am loving this watermelon themed party with our added pinwheels and hanging fans to the garage door- which was used as the table backdrop.  Very clever!

Rainbow Pinwheels

One of my favorite parties featured our rainbow pinwheels as cupcake toppers and our polka dot cupcake/candy cups as a cupcake tower.  How fun and bright!

Some of our circus pinwheels at a first birthday party.  Nice arrangement with our pinwheels, the photos and the one wood block number.

And another circus party outside in a park. This mom arranged our circus pinwheels in glass jars filled with candy and lollipops.

These are new circus designs on our pinwheels – just offered this year in our shop.

Another first birthday party used our larger size pinwheels as the table backdrop – lined up and towering over the other decorations.

At another event – our pinwheels were  arranged to create a mini garden by standing them up in some moss covered foam.

These are all great ideas for adding some spinning whimsey to your next party, holiday celebration or any event!

PARTY BACKGROUNDS PART 2 & THROWBACK THURSDAY

I could not resist sharing some more amazing party table backgrounds- some of which are even handpainted or at least handmade-

Bridal ShowerAnd this bride and groom took it to a whole oversized level with this stunning photo backdrop. This is original to say the least and the chalk doodling is stunning.

THROWBACK THURSDAY – SOME OF MY ART FROM THE PAST

Some of you may know that I was once a painter- or actually a tole painter, which is essentially a dead art or craft these days. Much of this style of painting is now considered Kitsch.

Not to offend any current and active tole painters- I am sure there a few still out there doing it, but it has become a bit dated now for home decor.  Back in the day (early 1990’s), I painted everything, from home decor, holiday decorations-mostly Christmas ornaments, and I painted on just about anything, but wood was my preference.  It was called Bauernmalerei, Rosemaling, and Hindeloopen.  It is a painting style that came over to the United States from Germany and Austria.  We had so much of this painted stuff by me in our home.

I sold most of it off but by 2004 and I could hardly give it away by that time.  Oh, all those hours and hours of painting little teardrops, dots, swirls, and flourishes.  It was relaxing to say the least.

Shortly after moving to Kansas City,  I was asked by a local Mexican restaurant owner, of  The Salty Iguana, to paint an iguana.  Nope, I did not get paid for it- he has a chain of restaurants in the area and everytime he opens a new location, he calls upon local residents to participate in the interior decorating of the restaurants.  Its kind of brilliant, really – free interior design mostly done by the locals and each resturant has about a hundred or more of these painted or decorated iguanas.  It was certainly fun doing it and reminded me of my old tole painting days.  My iquana was a replica of the famous painting –
