Confetti Party Ideas & Background DIY

MAKE YOUR OWN PARTY BACKGROUND WITH CONFETTI

hooray

This is a colorful, easy and inexpensive way to add a large background at your next party.  Scroll down for the three easy steps for this diy tutorial and easy how-to instructions.

The background design here is HOORAY in bright colorful rainbow confetti but I could see this with the birthday guest of honor’s name or maybe BABY, BOY, or GIRL for a baby shower.  I would so make this with a number spelled out, such as for a first birthday, with O-N-E or the actual number “1” as big as you can make it.  I love this diy because it can be personalized to your party!

And create your own color scheme with CONFETTI

Basically all you need is a pencil, poster board sheets, glue, disposable sponge brush . . . and of course CONFETTI!

1.) Start by freehand drawing the letters or number you plan to use for your background with your pencil on the poster board.  Depending on how big you want your background, you can make one letter, giant size, per each sheet of poster board or smaller by just drawing out your whole word on one sheet of  a single poster board, as shown below.

I like that these letters are kind of wonky and not so perfect, but if straight and perfectly even letters are your thing, you could use large letter stencils to trace your letters.  You could even skip the whole drawing freehand process and just use your home printer to print one large letter out per 8 1/2″ x 11″ letterhead size on heavier card stock.  If you decide to print and cut, your letters, I definitely recommend using at least a 65 lb card stock or heavier so your letters will stand up and be stiff once you cut them out.  Printer paper will be too floppy.  Another option is to print your letters on print paper, cut them out and then glue them on top of your poster board.

If you own a Silhouette or Cricut cutting machine you can actually go ahead and cut your letters before adding your confetti too.  This would be the easiest way and will give you perfectly straight letters.  If you are using this at a wedding or other event, you could even get fancy with your cutting machine and create a fancy scroll three letter monogram, like this-

Three Letter Monogram

2.) Once you have your letters worked out, if you are hand drawing them, gather your confetti, glue, and sponge brush.  You may either cut your letters first and then add the confetti, if you don’t mind that your confetti may hang off your letters, or you can glue the confetti on and then cut your letters to get perfect edges, as shown here-

Confetti Letters

Apply a thin layer of glue to the inside of your first letter and then quickly apply your circle tissue confetti in a random pattern of mixed colors.  Do this for all your letters.

If you cut your letters first, either by hand or with your silhouette, you can also use other styles of smaller and more dense confetti and simply sprinkle it on top of your glue coated letter and shake off any excess.

I recommend doing this process outside or on a large cookie sheet to keep your confetti clean up to a minimum.

3.) Once you have coated your entire letters, let them dry, and cut them out, in whichever order you choose to do so, you are ready to hang them up on your wall or you can even tie them with clear fishing string and dangle them from the ceiling too!  If you add them to a wall,  the best way to get them up is with Command or Scott’s brand sticky tabs.

Confetti Party Background

Since it will most likely be a temporary display that you will take down right after the party, you can easily just pull off the letters and wall tabs without damaging your walls.

DIY PARTY DECORATIONS – FLOWER BALLOONS

FLOWER BALLOONS DIY PROJECT
FlowerBalloon

These daisy flower balloons are so easy to make.  They would look stunning at a little girl’s birthday party or at a baby shower! Great as a retail window display too!  Make them in different colors too! No helium needed! Read on for the easy DIY –

You’ll need either 7″ or 12″ balloons in your colors of choice.  I suggest buying at least two different colors, so you have a contrasting color for your center balloon.  The larger balloons will create a puffier style of flower, rather than the daisy flowers shown here, which are made with the smaller 7″ balloons.

These are fairly easy to assemble.   Let’s get started with the step-by-step directions:

Step 1: Cut two circle templates from chipboard or a cardboard box will work too.  Cut one circle at approximately 6″ across and the other circle at 4″ across.  I find that using a bowl or tupperware container and flipping it over on your cardboard or chipboard and tracing around the edge makes it so easy to make a perfect circle!

Step 2: Blow up five balloons (for the flower petals), make sure they fit through the 6″ hole circle template. This helps to make sure all your balloons are the same size and your balloon flower petals will look consistent.  Easy trick! Next, blow up your center balloons (for creating the flower center), making sure they fit through the smaller 4″ circle template.  A balloon hand pump inflator is great for blowing up balloons and can make it go much faster.

Step 3: Tie two or your inflated balloons together. Create two sets of these double balloons as pictured above.

Step 4: Tie a third inflated balloon together, on just one set of your double balloons.

Step 5: Tie two of the contrasting colors of balloons together, for your centers. Keep in mind, you want your flower centers to show on either side of the full balloon flowers, so you will want two center balloons in a contrasting color.

Step 6: Wrap the double balloon petals around the set of three balloons at the center. Spread out the balloons so they lay flat. Now you can see they have formed a flower petals and a complete flower shape.

Step 7: Wrap the contrasting colors of double balloons, for the flower centers, around the five balloon petals once, so there’s one on each side.  Use clear fishing line to hang the flowers or ribbon or baker’s twine works great too.   These look great hanging behind a party table or anywhere at the party!

DIY Chalkboard Sign & Tray

DIY CHALKBOARD SIGN & TRAY TUTORIAL

I love this idea for a party sign.  Use it at a party standing upright with a HAPPY BIRTHDAY sentiment and then erase and use around the house all year long!

Here is the step by step tutorial on how to DIY this chalkboard sign and tray-

What You’ll Need:

  • Wood Tray
  • Chalkboard Markers
  • Black Chalkboard Paint
  • Acrylic Paint (any color)
  • Ribbon (any color)

Step 1:

Paint the outside edge and inside edge of the tray with the paint.

I used Aqua!

Let the paint dry completely.

Step 2:

Paint the inside of the tray with black chalkboard paint.

Let it dry completely.

Step 3:

If using as a sign for a party, just add your birthday phrase and stand it upright at your party table.

After the party,  use as a tray and add a postive inspirational quote.

The phrase can be changed on a regular basis. Just erase with a warm damp cloth and write something new and add some doodles too! Short quotes or even a new phrase for every holiday is perfect for the sign or tray!

Here is an easy way to put add professional looking text onto your chalkboard!

Step 4:

Print out the desired text at home on printer paper.

Step 5:

Use the side of the chalk and fill the back of the paper, so it becomes chalk carbon paper.

Step 6:

Place the paper on the tray and trace the letters with a piece of chalk.  Or you can even trace over the letters with a pencil, since you are only making an imprint of the letters. This will give you  more precise lines.

Tape or hold the paper in place so it doesn’t move while writing.

The imprint is a bit messy but it’s easy enough to trace over with the chalk marker.

Step 7:

Next, trace over the chalk imprinted lettering with your chalk marker and let it dry completely.

Chalk markers are so much fun!  Keep in mind, they are wet paint and can take a while to dry.

Step 8:

Let the chalk marker dry for about 30 minutes. Then wipe the dry chalk off the background with a dry cloth and hang in the house with a ribbon or anywhere at your party.
