While we’re hunkering down during the April showers, let’s get ready for May Day! You will want to keep these ideas handy and use your imagination on how many different ways they can be used. For example, the Light Bulb Flower Vases would be great for a tea party, Indoor Tulips could be made now in order to prepare for Mother’s Day later this month and Seed Bombs are great for weddings and baby showers (even Memorial Services). Keep reading to learn how to make these projects and more!
A Flower Pot Candle Holder by Praktic Ideas has a variety of uses.
These May Day Baskets by Crafts ‘n Coffee are great for every day, even decorating the aisle for The Big Day (weddings)!
Light Bulb Vases by the Free People Blog are another versatile decoration that’s great to keep in mind for tea parties, showers and even weddings!
My sisters and I decided to do something different on Mother’s Day year. Our mom is in the middle of downsizing. She’s clearing out the years of accumulated stuff, simplifying the home and yard, slapping on a fresh coat of paint and readying herself to downsize into a smaller and more manageable home. That being said, she loves setting up elaborate gardens (she has 6 in her front yard alone) and convincing her scale back to a clean slate for the soon to be new homeowner has been more than a bit difficult.
Luckily, my new son (her first grandchild), has kept us all so busy that the outdoors hadn’t been touched until last weekend. This creates a need for the perfect Mother’s Day gift!
First step, lawn mowing! My Dear Husband gets this fun task.
While he’s busy, we get to clean out the flower beds and simplify with hearty Hastas.
This project has been sitting in the shed since last fall. DIY compost bin! Once she moves we’ll install a permanent (and easier to turn) bin, but this is a quick, cheap and removable version that’s perfect for her needs. Take a large container with lid (we’re using a plastic trash can), drill holes on all sides, top and bottom, lift off the ground for circulation and you’re done with the construction. I would advise you also put some grass, leaves and soil on the bottom prior to filling with other compost materials. Use the bungee cord to fasten the lid and make sure you take it off the lifts and roll it around once every few weeks for aeration.
I cut her down to a small assortment of fresh herbs when I harvested the majority of last year’s crop. Now we will start a fresh crop in pots on the patio so they are easy to access.
The final step is peppers and tomatoes! I’m so excited because I plan to make homemade mozzarella, so fresh tomatoes and peppers are perfect! Plus I have the most awesome roasted red pepper dip on the planet and if you’re nice I’ll share it with you this summer (•‿•) .
Before I go, don’t forget about all of the upcoming holidays! Planning can take a bit of time and work so make sure you get your orders in now so PartyFetti can get your pinwheels, decorations and accessories to you in time.
Happy Mother’s Day, from my family to yours!!!!
