Party Trend For 2017- Unicorn Parties

PARTY TREND FOR 2017 – UNICORN PARTIES

In case you have not noticed, unicorn themed parties are hugely popular right now.  I recently shared some amazing unicorn cakes on my blog and today I wanted to share some party tables and decorations in this theme.  First, the color scheme can be any shades you want- although bright rainbows are most common, this color scheme shown above utilizes more of a pastel rainbow color mix.  The soft tissue flower frame backdrop is stunning- it really makes a statement at this two year old’s birthday party and adds so much height to the dessert table.  I offer some diy paper flowers in my craft shop so you can create a similar tablescape.

Here is another framed tissue flower backdrop at a unicorn party.  I love the more soft subtle color scheme and the simple decor on this buffet really stands out.  Pinks and golds are trendy and fit in for this theme but a rainbow color scheme is perfect too.

This outdoor party features a designer unicorn cake front and center and a mint green and soft pink color pallette with a touch of gold decor.

I think some unicorn pinwheels would have added an extra touch at the party above!

This unicorn birthday party for Emma has it all with candy and a designer unicorn cake and the bright rainbow decorations.

Finally, this last unicorn party looks like it might have been at the Vatican for the pope!  Actually, its just a simple Venetian living room  . . . not really, its anything but simple! While it appears over the top with all the gold, embellished walls, intricate carved table and flanked with elegant floral arrangements – its classic yet still sweet and whimsical.

So whatever your color scheme or style- consider a unicorn party this year!

10 Easy & Cheap Party Table Backgrounds

10 DIY EASY & CHEAP TABLE BACKDROPS

Today I am excited to share the easiest party table backdrop you can create- even if you have no crafty skills.  Plus, its CHEAP!  Who does not love cheap and stunning?  If you can open a package of paper plates and roll out some tape- you can do this! Literally, that is all you need- plates and tape.  No need for instructions here, I think you will get the gist of how to put these backgrounds together, simply from the photos. So, here are ten amazingly easy paper plate backgrounds to install at your next party-

Let’s start with super easy!  These two backdrops above only required a few plates.  They kept it simple by arranging them randomly and spreading them out on the wall. I love the simplicity of this party backdrop but also how fast it would be to put up.

Next up are easy rows of square plates – start with your lowest row, just above your table first, and line them up in perfect rows above. Bam! Simple and fast. Use all the same color or mix it up with alternating colors of square plates.

Same concept as with the square plates, but instead, use round plates.  This one above has overlapped each silver plate slightly to give it a more scalloped and 3D appearance. I could so see this in green and blue for a Little Mermaid themed party- doesn’t that remind you of ocean waves and mermaid scales?! It’s whatever your theme is- go with it!

This white plate background really makes a statement and the use of different alternating colors of paper behind it (use small 8″ x 8″ squares of paper) or you could buy a cheap large vinyl polka dot tablecloth and simply cover the large dots with plates to get the same backdrop of multi colors behind your plates. Plus you won’t have to peel tape off your wall- just tape your plates to the tablecloth and toss it when the party is over!

I’ll leave you with some sunshine.  This one took a bit longer as each plate has been fringed around the edges.  Yes, this can be done easily with fringe scissors. . . you can actually buy these fancy scissors at a local craft store.  They are amazing and you can diy so many other creative party decorations with them.  The added paper plate banner on the front of the table really pulls this whole setup together for a cheerful summer party!

So, what are you waiting for- go get some bright paper plates and design your own party table backdrop!

10 Christmas Table Styles

10 STYLISH CHRISTMAS TABLE SETTINGS

When the spread is this stylish, no one will notice if you overcook the roast on Christmas Day! Here are ten popular trendy styles for setting up your Christmas dining table.

Let’s start with Farmhouse– its the big 2016 home decor trend right now.

So, if you don’t have this vintage 1950’s model red truck with a Christmas tree in the back- seriously, if I see this one more time. . .

it is a bit redundant on every blog and home design store this year,  don’t worry if you did not rush out and pay $50 for that one Christmas decoration!  Please do NOT buy this- it is not worth the price and will most likely not be in style next year! Some home design trends can be skipped, if it is not in your budget.

Farmhouse is a mod podge of vintage items with rustic and woodsy decor, at least for this 2016 Christmas and its very easy to create this table setting.  Visit an antique store for some old ceramic putz houses, smaller Christmas trees, wood candle holders, other vintage decor, and any rustic style painted signs you can find locally.  Gather some oldie decorations for your centerpiece, add in some natural wood elements, and give it some height.  Place settings for the farmhouse style consist of vintage plates and glasses. Goodwill or your local thrift shop is a great and affordable place to find really nice vintage gold and silver plated tableware.

Next up is traditional Plaid – it is an easy go-to and never goes out of style for Christmas.

The updated version of plaid is Buffalo Check– black and red squares.

I like to call this next style Wintry – its icy blue and silver with strong elements of white.

Woodsy has been popular the past few years and is still very much in for this year.  Pull together sliced tree slabs, natural pine cones,  fresh or fake evergreen sprigs, and add in some miniature deer, elk, birds, bears or other forest creatures to get the look.

You can never go wrong with a style of Sophisticated Elegance and the best way to achieve this style at your Christmas table is to keep it simple and in a monotone (one) color scheme. This predominately silver set-up is a good example.  All gold works just as well too!

Shabby Chic has been around for a while and is wonderful way to create an atmosphere of comfort and nostalgia. The American version is lots of pinks, light blue, and mint green layered on creme.  For a more French style of shabby chic, stick with elements of grey and black layered on stark white.  The key decorative elements include – vintage lacy or crochet linens, chandeliers, crystal, and lots of roses.

Scandinavian has its style roots from mid-century (1950’s) and is a reduction of everything.  It is simple and clean.  Think IKEA- but not as cheap.  This table setting is a good example- pick only one or two decorative pieces (snowflake candles and embroidered hearts shown below) and repeat it without over-doing it. Red is definite must for creating this style, as it is a dominate color in the culture and pairs perfectly for Christmas.

There is not a darn thing wrong with Whimsical.  If you pull it off, it can be fun and still classy.  It also makes a perfect set up if you plan to sit all the children at your Christmas dinner at a separate table.  What defines this style?  Any theme that is a bit more childlike- peppermint, Christmas movie themes, more non-traditional colors like neon brights or pastel pinks and blues.  Consider your table as Wooville in How the Grinch Stole Christmas and go from there for a whimsical style.

Last is Traditional – basically dominate colors of red and green.  No need to spend a lot of money on this one.  Use your tableware and add in a solid red and solid green or even white with these two dominate colors layered on top.  Go with fabric for your linens in these two solid colors for your tablecloth, place mats, and napkins.  Lots of candles are great for the table center.   An easy and inexpensive table centerpiece can be created using red and green glass bulb ornaments fill inside a large clear glass bowl or vase.

So, there you have it – 10 Christmas table styles to get you ready of your holiday gathering.
