Party Decorating Ideas

A New Year & New Party Inspiration!

Christmas has been packed away and the kids are back in school.  It’s a new year and it’s time for party planning for 2018, organizing the home, and crafting new projects to keep you busy during the cold weather hibernation and to keep the winter blues away.  Today, I’m back to sharing some amazing party setups, like the one above- and by the way- all fans are on SALE in my party shop, The Party Fetti ShopHERE.

Time to get you thinking about birthdays in 2018 (yep, its a good idea to start planning now) – even if those birthdays are months away.

This January, I will help motivate you to organize several areas of your home and share some diy craft tutorials like this one –

Yay! Who could not love making a little vintage thrift store figure into a fabulous party prop. This would look great on the party table at a little girl’s birthday or in a girl’s bedroom.  There is not much to this crafting project –  grab your hot glue gun and embellish your vintage figurine with a paper made mini party hat and pinwheel, add some fringe crepe paper, a ribbon bow, and top it off with a flower and pom pom.  So adorable! I picked up several different vintage figurines at my local thrift store and I can’t wait to start decorating them to sell as room decor and party props in my Etsy shops.

Since all hanging fans are on sale in my shop right now – I thought I would inspire you with several party table backdrops created with fans.  They are the easiest way to decorate at a party and make a big statement.

A mix of pinks and gold would be perfect for this coming Valentine’s Day celebration.

Greens and gold for Saint Patrick’s Day and how about a whole bar cart set up of treats too.

Paper fans can also be used to decorate your fireplace mantel for every holiday- even St. Patrick’s Day.

How about flower themed decor for a celebration in spring like a first communion, a baptism, baby shower, bridal shower or your Easter brunch.

Watermelon Utensil Holder Tutorial

WATERMELON UTENSIL HOLDER TUTORIAL

Easy DIY Tutorial Craft Project

Today I am sharing a tutorial for a diy painted watermelon utensil holder made from a glass mason jar.  I love creative ideas for displaying my utensils and cutlery at a summer barbecue or party.  This easy to make watermelon utensil holder is perfect for a summer get together or if you are planning a watermelon themed party!  Be sure to check out all my previous posts here on the blog for  – WATERMELON PARTIES!

Feel free to stop by and browse my Etsy shop for all your summertime party decorations too – The Party Fetti Shop

Let’s get started with making these fun utensil holders.  Gather your supplies.  I’ve made it easy for you to order online- simply click on the supplies below.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Mason jar
(use multi-surface or glass paint)
Black paint
Light green paint

White paint
Paint brushes
Jute twine

Once you have everything you need to get started, lay down some newspaper to protect your table or work area where you will be painting.

First, wipe down your jar or jars with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils from fingerprints and any dirt.  Allow to dry for about ten minutes.

Start by painting the lower part or the bottom of the jar with your lighter green paint and allow to dry. Add a second coat when dry.

Paint the top of the jar with red paint. Paint a second coat of red when dry.

After your initial two coats in each color are dry, paint snake-like curvy lines in a vertical direction on your lower green section to create the appearance of the watermelon rind.  Don’t be concerned with how even these two colors are at the middle because you are going to paint over the meetup point of the two colors on the jar which will therefore clean it up.

Next, divide your red and green painted sections on the jar by painting a nice even and straight line with your white paint.

Add a few watermelon seeds to the top red area in a random pattern.  TIP: Rather than painting the seeds by hand, I prefer to use the bottom handle of my paint brush to make the seeds. Just dip the pointed end of your brush into the black paint and simply add a round dot.  Then, immediately, before your dot dries, flip your brush and pull the dot out to a teardrop shape with the tip of your brush.  As a result, this is much easier than trying paint on a perfect seed shape.

Finally, allow your painted jar to dry for a few hours.  Add your jute twine bow at the neck of your jar. Next, fill it up with your forks, spoons and knives.  Now you are ready to serve your guests.

These are so adorable for any summertime gathering!

Anchors and sailboats are the dominate decor at this nautical first birthday party!

This is a great set up with lots of stripes and sand dollars and don’t forget the straws.  Don’t forget if you have some beach decor around the home, those make perfect props at a nautical party table- like the giant anchor, lifesaver, and lighthouse at this party above.

This ahoy party features great balloon styling!  Those columns of balloons flanking the table make a stunning statement.
