Thanksgiving & Fall Porch Decorating Ideas

25 Fall Porch Decorating Ideas To Greet Your Guests For Thanksgiving

It’s time to transition from Halloween to Fall home decor to greet your guests in style for your upcoming Thanksgiving gathering.  Before you start planning your Thanksgiving dinner menu, today I have 25 ideas to get you going in the right direction for decorating your porch for a stunning autumn front entrance.

Having a seasonally decorated front porch helps to create a mood within your home as well as stating something deeper about your personality. By going with simpler decorations, you can communicate to others that you appreciate simple yet stylish touches. Through your choice of decorations, you can also make your porch a more inviting space for visitors during the fall season.

Effective fall decorating is all about choosing the right combination of color palettes and schemes. With fall decorations, this means combining browns, oranges, yellows, reds and greens in a way that is pleasing to the eye and right for your porch space.

When choosing from different fall porch decors, it is important to take the overall style of your home into consideration. The wrong porch decorations could detract from your home’s charm if not done correctly. You should take time to consider different fall porch design ideas and choose one that works best for your porch.

The carved flames on these pumpkins are stunning but easy enough to create yourself!  The layered spooky framed art over the hearth makes this fireplace mantle fun and whimsical too.

All that glitters is the theme with this Halloween fireplace set up – including the black glitter painted skeleton.  It totally works- when the lights go out everything will shimmer in the firelight and light up some candles at night for even more sparkle.

If you are short on Halloween decorations and time, this simple fireplace mantel setup is perfect.  Only a few basic decorations adorn this fireplace for black and white elegance.

In case you have not noticed, the Halloween trend this year is pose-able skeletons.  The human size skeletons are so versatile and you can really get creative with setting them up in funny scenes.  This steampunk themed fireplace features a repetition of over-sized skulls and a unique letter banner hanging from a shower curtain rod.

So there you have it-six creative Halloween decorating ideas to help you get your fireplace ready to greet your guests at your spooky soiree!

FALL HOME TOUR

Why My Home Is Not Farmhouse Style

There is one thing you should know about our home- it is not farmhouse style and thank goodness! I need COLOR!

Fall is my favorite season, because of all the bright colors of autumn. I like my pumpkins orange and not white and grey. No offence to those who have white decor, white walls, white furniture and white everything.  I do love neutrals – looking at all those ivory, grey, and tan shades is certainly calming and wonderful . . . in someone else’s home. As for me, I went with neutral walls so that I could change out my home decor every season with a pop of color.

Today I am sharing a few areas of my home decorated for fall, starting with our entry table above that is a layered abundance of fall floral arrangements and rustic accents. Yes, I painted that scarecrow stave in the corner many years ago and made the fall wood sign last year.

Our dining room has a wonderful large bay window that lets in so much light in the morning – of course I took these photos a bit late in the afternoon, so even with my flash on and lights all turned on, its a bit dark, but I think its still bright enough to show off.  One of my favorite pieces in our home is the wood box centerpiece on our dining room table – I change it up every season.  Right now it’s filled with leaves, glitter pumpkins, acorns and three electric candles.

My husband made the hanging wood piece above our buffet.  I designed it, but he built it for me last year.  I added the lanterns and switch out the wreath for different holidays.

We just purchased this sideboard cabinet a few weeks ago- it has stunning details, which is why I fell in love with it, plus it was refinished.  I found it at our local area pop up shops in Kansas City, called the West Bottoms.  I love shopping there- I always find recycled home decor and vintage treasure!

This is our kitchen and informal dining room fireplace and my favorite place in the home.  On cold winter nights we turn on the gas fireplace and eat dinner at this cozy table-

Last are a few of my side tables decorated for fall around our home.

Finally, a few items I’ve tucked in that are actually for sale over at my home decor shop on Etsy-  Once Upon A Home Designs
