Paper Flowers & More

Giant Paper Flowers Trend For Summer Events

Happy Friday!  The weather is so perfect now for outdoor events and weddings.  It is almost summer and with mother nature in full bloom in gardens everywhere this time of year, I want to revisit the popularity of paper flowers as one of the biggest event and party trends of this year.

Giant paper flowers are popping up at all kinds of celebrations and events and the paper flower backgrounds are so easy to create on your own from my Etsy shop flower kits available – HERE

All my flower kits come entirely cut for you!  No need to buy digital templates, print them, cut templates, trace and then cut your actual flowers and finally assemble them – that is way too many steps!! My kits are already cut for you and come with full visual step-by-step instructions! Super easy!

The ideas are endless for where to add paper flowers as decorations at a celebration. While they are trending at weddings for photo backdrops – they are now popping up at baby showers, birthday parties, fundraising events, bridal showers and even has home decor.

I offer numerous options in my Etsy craft shop for the smaller flowers too, available – HERE

The smaller three dimensional layered and rolled flowers or rolled roses can be added to just about anything.  Top off favor boxes or guest gift boxes with flowers in your event or wedding color scheme.  Create flower garlands and hang them in rows for backdrop streamer or drape them horizontally as bunting across the front of a party table or behind your table.

Add some rolled flowers around electric string lights to make a big statement at your next evening or low lighted event.  Lighting is always a great way to create a mood and ambiance at a wedding reception.

I will be adding many more styles of paper flowers, including crepe paper flowers over the next few weeks in the shop for more summer options too.  Be sure to stop by the shop – Ready Set Craft Kits and favorite my shop (click the heart under my shop name) to get new updates in your Etsy feed recommendations!

Each of the smaller flower kits also come with visual instructions as well.

Once you have everything you need to get started, lay down some newspaper to protect your table or work area where you will be painting.

First, wipe down your jar or jars with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils from fingerprints and any dirt.  Allow to dry for about ten minutes.

Start by painting the lower part or the bottom of the jar with your lighter green paint and allow to dry. Add a second coat when dry.

Paint the top of the jar with red paint. Paint a second coat of red when dry.

After your initial two coats in each color are dry, paint snake-like curvy lines in a vertical direction on your lower green section to create the appearance of the watermelon rind.  Don’t be concerned with how even these two colors are at the middle because you are going to paint over the meetup point of the two colors on the jar which will therefore clean it up.

Next, divide your red and green painted sections on the jar by painting a nice even and straight line with your white paint.

Add a few watermelon seeds to the top red area in a random pattern.  TIP: Rather than painting the seeds by hand, I prefer to use the bottom handle of my paint brush to make the seeds. Just dip the pointed end of your brush into the black paint and simply add a round dot.  Then, immediately, before your dot dries, flip your brush and pull the dot out to a teardrop shape with the tip of your brush.  As a result, this is much easier than trying paint on a perfect seed shape.

Finally, allow your painted jar to dry for a few hours.  Add your jute twine bow at the neck of your jar. Next, fill it up with your forks, spoons and knives.  Now you are ready to serve your guests.

These are so adorable for any summertime gathering!
